UAE - TDRA Type Approval - Overview

The UAE's Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) manages the Type Approval process for telecommunications devices, ensuring adherence to local regulations.

The UAE TDRA Equipment Type Approval has a three year validity and the process can only be administered through companies who have a valid supplier registration with TDRA. Samples and local testing are not required, however TDRA can request for product samples in some rare cases.

As part of the process, we assist, review and prepare all required technical documents needed for the TDRA Equipment registration. Please note all Radio and Telecommunication devices including receiver/GPS only products also require mandatory UAE TDRA Type approval.

UAE TDRA Type Approval - Summary:

  • Concerned Authority : Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) (https://tdra.gov.ae/

  • Applicable Radio and Telecommunication Equipment Certification : TDRA Type Approval/Equipment Registration with three schemes:

    • Scheme 1 : Based on Declaration of Conformity with the technical standards and essential requirements​

    • Scheme 2 : Requiring Proof of Conformity with the Technical standards and essential requirements though supporting ILAC certified lab's Test reports

    • Scheme 3 : Requirements of Scheme 2 and additional technical testing at TDRA National Lab (Only Mobile Phone fall under this scheme) 

  • Required Documents:

    • Technical Literature of Device (User Manual, Specifications/Data Sheet, Operational Description)​

    • Declaration of Conformity (DoC)

    • RF,EMC,Health and Safety Test Reports as per applicable Test standards

    • GSMA TAC Letter(for cellular devices)

  • Sample Requirements: Up to two samples can be requested by TDRA for Mobile Phone approval applications

  • Approval Validity: Three (3) years 

  • In-country Testing Requirements: Required for Mobile Phones

  • Local Representation : Not Required

  • Labelling Requirement: Mandatory labeling is required on approved devices

  • Lead time : 3-5 Weeks

  • UAE Customs Release Permit : UAE TDRA issues separate customs release permits for all Telecommunication devices shipments once TDRA Equipment Registration/Type Approval is completed 

UAE Exempt Items

List of Exempt Items from UAE TDRA Type Approval:

  • All devices with any Radio frequency transmit or receive (Tx and/or Rx) feature require mandatory UAE TDRA Type Approval/Equipment registration. This includes NFC, RFID, GNSS Receiver, VSAT and GPS only devices as well.
