UAE TDRA Updates Radio Spectrum Frameworks to Support Advanced Air Mobility

The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has approved updates to two radio spectrum regulatory frameworks to support the future deployment of advanced air mobility (AAM) technologies in the UAE.

The updates include:

  • Regulatory Framework for Aeronautical Radio Systems – Version 4.0

  • Regulatory Framework for Unmanned Aircraft Radio Systems – Version 3.0

The revised frameworks are designed to support emerging technologies such as air taxis, delivery drones, and next-generation electric aerial vehicles by providing the regulatory and spectrum foundation needed for communication, navigation, and air traffic surveillance systems.

According to the TDRA, the updated frameworks aim to:

  • Support the safe and reliable operation of advanced air mobility systems.

  • Enhance spectrum management for aeronautical and unmanned aircraft communications.

  • Improve airspace safety and operational efficiency.

  • Foster innovation in the UAE's smart mobility ecosystem.

The updates form part of the UAE's broader strategy to establish a comprehensive regulatory environment that enables future transportation technologies and strengthens the country's position as a global innovation hub.
