LAOS - MPT Type Approval - Overview

The Laos Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) serves as the national authority responsible for regulating Radio and Telecommunication Equipment Type Approvals in Laos.

Laos MPT type approvals require mandatory local representation and are valid for three years for Type 1 equipment or one year for Type 2 equipment. No sample submission is required for either type.

Mobile phones and tablets (even those with only Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi) are classified as Type 1. Devices installed in vehicles with cellular capabilities are classified as Type 2. All general Short-Range Devices (SRDs) also fall under Type 2.
