Qatar - CRA Type Approval - Overview

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) in Qatar, Doha is the country's regulator responsible for the reviews and Type Approvals of all Radio and Telecommunication equipment prior to their use, import, and production in Qatar. There are few exemptions to the CRA Type Approval which are mentioned on this page below.

CRA Qatar accepts equipment testing already done under globally accredited bodies and allows simplified CRA Type Approval scheme for such devices without the need for any local testing or any required samples.

All CRA Granted Type Approvals have permanent validity and re-approval is only required in case of hardware changes to the already CRA Type Approved equipment.

Qatar Exempt Items

List of Exempt Items from Qatar CRA Type Approval:

  • Equipment that only receives signals 

  • Transmitter equipment that can only transmit under control of a public network, such as mobile phones 

  • Radio equipment embedded in computers or laptops with output power below 100 mW, such as WiFi or Bluetooth equipment 

  • Radio equipment for use by licensed amateur users only 

  • Passive cable and wiring-based radio equipment 

  • Broadcast receiver equipment, such as satellite TV and radio (FM/AM) 

  • Short-range radio equipment embedded in vehicles, such as car navigation systems, remote sensors, and Bluetooth devices 

  • Short-range infrared remote control equipment, such as TV remote controls and garage door openers.
