The Communications Commission of Kiribati (CCK) is the official authority responsible for regulating telecommunications and radio frequency (RF) equipment within Kiribati. In accordance with the Communications Act 2012, all communications equipment must obtain Type Approval prior to importation, sale, installation, or use in the country. This regulatory framework ensures that devices placed on the Kiribati market comply with recognized international standards and do not cause harmful interference, network disruption, or risks to health and safety.

CCK authorizes equipment based on compliance with internationally recognized technical standards for radio communications, telecommunications, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and electrical safety. Upon approval, CCK issues an Approval Certificate and updates the Type Approval Register on its website.

The certificate remains valid for the approved equipment type as long as it continues to comply with applicable standards. If any information provided is found to be false or if the equipment fails to meet technical requirements, the Commission may reject or cancel the approval. Market surveillance activities are conducted to ensure ongoing compliance, and non-compliant equipment may be confiscated or withdrawn from the market.
