Type approval in the Philippines is mandatory for all radio frequency and telecom equipment, regulated by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). This includes devices that emit radio frequencies or connect to public networks, such as short-range wireless devices and cellular-enabled products.

The approval process does not require a sample, and once granted, the certificate is valid permanently. The lead time is typically 6 to 8 weeks, and product labeling in compliance with NTC requirements is mandatory.

Devices fall under three main certification schemes:

• Type Acceptance Certificate for RCE (Radio Communication Equipment) – Covers short-range devices like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other non-cellular RF transmitters.
Examples: Computers and laptops with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, wireless/magnetic chargers, and other short-range devices (SRDs).

• Type Approval Certificate for CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) – Includes devices operating on 2G, 3G, or 4G networks.
Examples: GPON/EPON devices, analog telephones, fax machines.

• GEC (General Equipment Certificate) – A combined approval for products with both RCE and CPE functionalities.
Examples: Smartphones, 2G/3G/LTE/5G NR wireless access points, and WWAN-enabled SRDs.
