El Salvador SIGET - Type Approval: Overview

The Superintendencia General de Electricidad y Telecomunicaciones (SIGET) is the independent regulatory body responsible for implementing and overseeing the telecommunications regulatory framework in El Salvador. Established under the Telecommunications Law (Decreto Legislativo No. 142 of 1997), SIGET is mandated to ensure compliance with telecommunications regulations, manage the radio frequency spectrum, and regulate radio and telecommunications equipment placed on the Salvadoran market.

SIGET offers a type approval certificate covering Short Range Devices and other low-power radio equipment, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and WWAN devices. While obtaining this certificate is not strictly mandatory, it is widely recommended as it serves as official documentation of compliance and helps avoid potential issues during import and customs clearance.

The certification process is documentation-based and accepts CE, FCC, ETSI, or other internationally recognised certifications as the basis for compliance evaluation. Local laboratory testing is not required, and existing international test reports and certificates can be submitted directly to SIGET. There are no local representation requirements and no additional product labelling obligations.

Once submitted with the correct documentation, SIGET typically issues the certificate within 2 - 4 weeks. Our team manages the complete application process on your behalf, from initial regulatory assessment and documentation preparation through to final approval, ensuring your equipment reaches the El Salvador market efficiently and without unnecessary delays.
