Belize PUC- Type Approval: Overview
The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating the telecommunications sector in Belize, operating under the Telecommunications Act (CAP.299) and the Statutory Instrument No. 152 of 2002. The PUC oversees the type approval framework for all radio and telecommunications equipment intended for import, commercialisation, or use in Belize.
All products utilising radio frequency, cellular, or satellite technology must obtain PUC type approval before they can be imported or commercialised in Belize. The process is documentation-based, with existing international test reports and foreign type approval certificates accepted as the basis for compliance evaluation. No local laboratory testing or physical sample submission is required. There are no local representation requirements, and no additional product labelling obligations apply. Once issued, the PUC type approval certificate carries an unlimited validity period.
Processing times are generally around 5 - 7 weeks from the date all required documentation has been correctly submitted. Our team manages the complete type approval application process on your behalf, from initial regulatory assessment and documentation preparation through to final certificate issuance, ensuring your equipment reaches the Belize market efficiently and without unnecessary delays.
