UAE regulator clarifies rules on telecom imports, customs permits required

The UAE’s telecommunications regulator has clarified that a customs clearance permit is mandatory for importing telecommunications devices into the country, underscoring that the requirement is crucial to ensure equipment enters the UAE legally and safely.

The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) stated that it offers dedicated services for issuing customs permits for telecom equipment and provides comprehensive guidance on the different types of approvals through its official website.

The authority explained that the permit requirement forms part of its broader efforts to regulate the telecommunications sector and reinforce compliance with approved procedures. This helps prevent the unauthorised importation of devices that could pose technical, regulatory, or security risks.

TDRA urged importers, businesses, and individuals to review the full import requirements via its official online platforms to avoid delays or complications at customs.
