Montserrat MICA - Type Approval: Overview
The Montserrat Info-Communications Authority is the official body responsible for regulating telecommunications and radio frequency (RF) equipment within Montserrat. All radio and Info-Communications devices must obtain Type Approval before they can be imported, installed, sold, or operated in the territory. This ensures that equipment placed on the Montserrat market complies with applicable technical, safety, and spectrum management requirements.
Type Approval applications are accepted from manufacturers, authorized institutions, or individual users for specific equipment. Overseas applicants must submit the original application form via express courier, while supporting documentation may be provided electronically.
Montserrat recognizes equipment certified under relevant FCC regulations, Canadian technical standards, and European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) standards thus need for additional in-country testing, and physical samples are generally not required unless specifically requested. CE marking or FCC ID is mandatory, along with the applicable standardization agency mark.
Type Approval certificates are issued under the manufacturer’s name. A local representative is not mandatory for the approval process. The estimated processing timeline is approximately 2–4 weeks, provided that all required documentation and payment have been received.
Once granted, the certificate remains valid as long as there are no changes to the approved model name or technical specifications. Any modification to the equipment name or model requires submission of a new application, supported by revised documentation or a formal declaration confirming that technical specifications remain unchanged. Certificates may be revoked if used outside their approved scope or if obtained through improper means.
