Algeria - Type Approval : Overview

The Agence Nationale des Fréquences (ANF) and the Autorité de Régulation de la Poste et des Communications Électroniques (ARPCE), are the official authorities responsible for regulating telecommunications equipment and radio frequency (RF) devices in the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

While both bodies operate within the national regulatory framework, their roles are distinct. The ANF is primarily responsible for radio spectrum management and provides approvals to devices such as Automotive Systems, Zigbee devices and wireless headphones.

In contrast, the ARPCE acts as the telecommunications regulator, overseeing equipment that connects to public electronic communication networks, such as cellular mobile phone, Wi-Fi Device, and other ICT/RTTE devices, and is the main authority issuing type approval certificates for such equipment.

Algeria utilizes a CE recognition-based certification system. Unlike many other jurisdictions, ANF/ARPCE primarily relies on international test reports (such as CE from the EU) to verify compliance.

As per the revised decree in March 2026, multiple importers can now use the same certificate. The certification by ANF/ARPCE still requires a local representative and we have our local team in Algeria ready to support you.

Once issued, the certificate has 5 year validity, provided no technical modifications are made to the device. The standard processing times take approximately 10 weeks.

Algeria Type Approval - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: What is ANF/ARPCE Algeria Type Approval?
A1: ANF/ARPCE type approval is a mandatory certification required for telecom and radio equipment before it can be imported, sold, or used in Algeria. It ensures that devices comply with national technical standards, spectrum regulations, and safety requirements.

● ANF handles radio-frequency and spectrum-related approvals for devices such as automotive RF systems, Zigbee devices, and Bluetooth/wireless headphones.

● ARPCE regulates telecom equipment that connects to public networks, such as mobile phones, Wi-Fi devices, and other ICT/RTTE equipment.

Q2: Which devices require type approval in Algeria?
A2: All devices that connect to public networks or have RF capabilities will require mandatory approval in Algeria by ARPCE or ANF depending upon the device category.

Q3: Are non-RF devices subject to type approval in Algeria?
A3: Typically, non-RF devices that do not connect to public telecom networks (e.g., purely wired ethernet) usually do not require mandatory type approval. However, it is recommended to obtain a Non-Submission to Homologation certificate to avoid potential delays at customs.

Q4: Is an exemption letter required for exempted devices by Algerian authorities?
A4: While not mandatory, obtaining a Non-Submission to Homologation (exemption certificate) is strongly encouraged to prevent potential customs issues.

Q5: Who can apply for type approval in Algeria?
