Yemen - MTIT Type Approval - Overview

In Yemen, telecommunications equipment type approval is regulated by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology (MTIT). Since 2015, the country has been operating under two separate regulatory administrations:

  • MTIT – Sana’a Authority

  • MTIT – Aden Authority

Both authorities are recognized as official regulatory bodies responsible for issuing Type Approval Certificates for telecommunications equipment.

The Sana’a authority currently issues Type Approval Certificates that are mandatory for telecommunications and radio equipment entering or distributed within areas under its administration. Importers are required to obtain this certificate in order to place products on the market in those regions.

The Aden authority has recently initiated the process of issuing Type Approval Certificates in early 2026.

Certificates issued by one authority are not formally recognized by the other, which means manufacturers and importers may need to obtain separate approvals from both authorities to ensure full regulatory compliance and nationwide distribution.

This is particularly relevant as most import entry points, including seaports and land borders, are under the administration of the Aden government, while products distributed in northern regions require certification issued by the Sana’a authority.
