Yemen Type Approval Now Operates Under Two Separate Authorities

Yemen’s telecommunications type approval system is currently administered by two distinct regulatory authorities, reflecting the ongoing political and administrative division within the country.

Since 2015, companies seeking type approval for telecom and radio equipment have been required to navigate the dual framework:

  • Ministry of Telecommunications – Sana’a Authority

  • Ministry of Telecommunications – Transitional Government (Aden)

The Sana’a authority continues to issue type approval certificates for products destined for areas under its control. Meanwhile, the Aden authority has recently launched its own certification scheme, issuing certificates for equipment intended for Aden-controlled regions. Each authority issues type approval certificates only for the areas under its control.

No Mutual Recognition Between Authorities

Since Sana’a and Aden authorities do not recognize each other’s certificates, manufacturers and importers must obtain two separate type approval certificates for the same product to comply nationwide.

Companies should align certification with their target market and logistics, and consider obtaining both Sana’a and Aden certificates to ensure smooth customs clearance. For more information, reach out to our experts at info@nanotechsol.com.
