Taking Your Wireless Products to Fiji? Know Which Standards Matter

Your product has already been tested in Europe, the United States, or Australia. Do you need to repeat the entire compliance process before selling it in Fiji?

Not always. Existing test reports and approval documents may help with your application. However, meeting international standards does not automatically mean your product is approved for Fiji. You still need to meet the applicable requirements of the Telecommunications Authority of Fiji (TAF).

Here’s what manufacturers should know before bringing telecommunications and wireless equipment into the Fijian market.

Already Tested Your Product? Here’s What to Check

Fiji's Type Approval process recognizes internationally accepted compliance evidence. Manufacturers may be able to use existing reports and certificates from other markets to support their applications.

FCC Standards – United States

If your product has already been tested for the US market, your FCC-related test reports may provide useful evidence for your Fiji TAF Type Approval application. Check that the reports cover the exact model you plan to submit and include the relevant technical information.

CE and ETSI Standards – Europe

Already have European compliance documents? Test reports based on relevant ETSI standards may help support your application for telecommunications and wireless equipment.

Keep in mind that a CE mark alone does not guarantee approval in Fiji. Your supporting documents must still be suitable for TAF's assessment.

AS/NZS Standards – Australia and New Zealand

If your product has been tested against relevant Australian and New Zealand standards, those reports may also be useful.

The important point is to review your existing documentation before arranging new tests. It may already cover some of the requirements relevant to your application.

International Standards Do Not Replace Fiji Approval

This is an important distinction for manufacturers entering a new market.

FCC, CE/ETSI, and AS/NZS compliance does not automatically grant Fiji TAF Type Approval. These standards and documents can support your application, but they do not replace the national approval process.

TAF must assess the evidence provided for your particular equipment. Requirements can vary depending on the product and its technologies, so approval in one country should not be assumed to cover another.

Can You Reuse Your Existing Test Reports?

Before submitting your application, review your reports carefully:

  • Check the model number: Make sure the brand, model, and technical specifications match the product being submitted.

  • Review test coverage: Confirm that the reports address the relevant RF, EMC, and safety requirements, where applicable.

  • Check document consistency: Ensure that test reports, certificates, and declarations contain matching product information.

If important details are missing, TAF may request further documentation or a product sample.

Get Your Documents Ready

Preparing your paperwork in advance can help prevent avoidable delays. Depending on your equipment and application, you may need:

  • A completed TAF application form

  • Product specifications and technical documentation

  • Relevant RF, EMC, and safety test reports

  • A Declaration of Conformity and applicable conformity certificates

Check that all documents refer to the exact product model you intend to approve. Small inconsistencies can lead to additional questions during the review.

Three Things to Remember Before Applying

  • Each equipment type needs approval: Do not assume approval for one model covers an entire product family.

  • Allow time for assessment: TAF's published procedure indicates a general assessment period of 10 working days. Additional requests may affect the timeline.

  • Review product changes: Changes to an approved product may affect its existing certificate. Check with TAF before relying on the original approval.
