TCRA Concludes 3600–3800 MHz Spectrum Auction to Boost 5G Rollout
The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has officially concluded the auction of radio frequency spectrum in the 3600–3800 MHz band for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) services, a key step in advancing Tanzania’s 5G rollout and digital infrastructure.
The auction process, initiated by a public notice on December 18, 2024, followed a series of strategic steps including a technical and market assessment, stakeholder consultation (completed May 21, 2025), and the release of the Information Memorandum (IM) on June 2, 2025. The auction was successfully conducted on July 10, 2025.
The auction supports the National ICT Policy 2016 by promoting efficient spectrum use, fair competition, consumer benefits, and innovation.
Aligned with WRC-23 decisions and the Digital Economy Framework (2024–2034), the spectrum will boost broadband infrastructure, enable digital services like health and education, and accelerate 5G deployment.
Auction Results:
Three operators participated in the auction, and all four available spectrum blocks were successfully assigned:
Viettel Tanzania Plc
Honora Tanzania Plc
Vodacom Tanzania Plc
Auction fees will be paid in five installments (2025–2027) to support network investment. TCRA congratulates the successful bidders and reaffirms its commitment to supporting innovation, investment, and digital inclusion through strategic spectrum management.
