Thailand to End Certification and Import of 2G and 3G-Only Telecom Equipment
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand has officially announced the termination of certification and import permissions for telecommunications equipment that supports only 2G and 3G technologies.
The decision, approved during NBTC Meeting No. 13/2025 held on April 29, 2025, aligns with the country’s strategy to optimize frequency usage and advance the adoption of 4G and 5G technologies, which offer significantly higher data rates, lower latency, and greater device connectivity.
 Key Measures Approved by NBTC:
Certification of Standards for 2G/3G-only telecom equipment will end on June 30, 2025.
Import Permission for such equipment will also be valid only until June 30, 2025.
The use of self-inspection marks and requests for official certification marks for 2G/3G-only devices will be terminated starting June 2025.
This move is intended to free up spectrum resources for modern mobile technologies and reflects the fact that 4G and 5G networks now cover the vast majority of Thailand, offering superior performance and efficiency.
