Sri Lanka’s Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRCSL) has launched an automated Equipment Clearance System (ECS) for imported telecommunications equipment.

The new online system brings key processes together, including Type Approval, IMEI device clearance and non-IMEI equipment clearance. It also supports temporary import permissions for equipment intended for re-export.

The first phase focuses on terminal equipment, including devices such as mobile phones, routers and IoT equipment.

From 1 October 2026, equipment clearance requests will be submitted and processed through the ECS.

The system also allows applicants to track applications online and receive status updates by SMS and email, making the clearance process more accessible for importers and other applicants.
