South Africa: ICASA Completes Phase 1 of Community Broadcasting Licence Evaluations
The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has concluded Phase 1 of its evaluation for Community Sound Broadcasting Service and Radio Frequency Spectrum (RFS) licence applications.
Out of 41 applications, 19 applicants successfully met pre-registration requirements and will advance to Phase 2. This represents a notable improvement from 2021, when only 5 out of 56 applicants progressed.
Phase 2 requires applicants to submit Form B within 30 days of receiving official decision letters. Applicants who did not meet pre-registration standards have been disqualified, with reasons communicated individually.
This update highlights the importance of regulatory compliance in spectrum management and broadcasting services, an essential consideration for companies involved in radio, IoT, and wireless technologies in South Africa.
