Singapore IMDA Updates Technical Specification for Cellular Mobile Terminals

The Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) has released an updated Technical Specification for Cellular Mobile Terminals (IMDA TS CMT – Issue 1 Rev 4) in March 2026, outlining revised technical and compliance requirements for devices used on public mobile networks in Singapore.

The updated specification covers devices such as smartphones, wireless modems, and other cellular terminals supporting LTE-Advanced and 5G NR technologies based on international standards defined by the International Telecommunication Union.

Key updates include:

  • 2G connectivity must be disabled by default and can only be enabled through deliberate user action.

  • Mandatory VoLTE support for devices designed for voice calling.

  • New emergency cell broadcast requirements, ensuring devices can automatically receive and display public warning alerts.

  • Updated safety and compliance standards, including additional lithium battery safety references.

Manufacturers and suppliers must ensure compliance with these requirements when placing cellular devices on the Singapore market. For expert insights, feel free to contact info@nanotechsol.com.
