Panama: ASEP Proposes Unlicensed Use of the Lower 6 GHz Band
Panama’s National Public Services Authority (ASEP) has proposed amendments to the National Frequency Allocation Plan (PNAF), including designating the 5925–6425 MHz band for unlicensed use to support next-generation Wi-Fi technologies.
The proposal aims to facilitate the introduction of Wi-Fi 6E equipment in Panama while establishing technical conditions for coexistence with existing radio services.
Under the proposed framework, Low Power Indoor (LPI) devices would be restricted to indoor operation, while Very Low Power (VLP) devices could operate indoors and outdoors subject to specified power limits and operating restrictions.
The consultation also proposes updates to national frequency allocations in line with the ITU Radio Regulations (RR-2024), amendments to commercial Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) provisions for the Panama Canal Area, and new provisions for Direct-to-Cell (D2C) satellite connectivity.
