Pakistan PTA Releases Draft Framework for Inflight Telecom Satellite Services
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has introduced a draft licensing framework for Inflight Telecommunication Satellite (ITS) Services in Pakistan, enabling onboard internet and mobile connectivity services for domestic and foreign airlines operating within Pakistani airspace.
Under the proposed framework, operators may provide broadband and onboard cellular services through registered satellite systems, with mobile services permitted only above 3000 meters altitude.
The draft license requires operators to register with PSARB, use gateway earth stations located in Pakistan, obtain international bandwidth from Pakistani LDI operators, and interconnect with local mobile networks.
The proposed license will be valid for 10 years with an initial fee.. PTA has also included data localization requirements, mandating that all service traffic and user data remain within Pakistan.
The framework further requires compliance with PTA regulations, aviation standards, and mandatory type approval for telecom equipment used within the ITS network.
Deadline:31st May.
