Pakistan Moves Closer to ESIM Regulatory Framework

Pakistan is moving closer to introducing Earth Stations in Motion (ESIM) services following discussions between regulators and global satellite operators on a future regulatory framework.

The workshop brought together the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (PSARB), the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and other government agencies to discuss telecommunications licensing, spectrum management, equipment Type Approval, and satellite connectivity.

The discussions also reviewed PTA's proposed NOC process and In-Flight Telecommunications Service (ITS) licence for aeronautical ESIM services.

Although no new regulations have been adopted, the workshop marks another step in Pakistan's efforts to build a clear regulatory framework for satellite communications and support future ESIM services.

Key Points

  • Pakistan advances work on a future ESIM framework.

  • Discussions covered licensing, spectrum, and Type Approval.

  • PTA's proposed NOC and ITS licence were reviewed.

  • The framework is still under development and not yet in force.
