Oman TRA Launches Public Consultation on Physical Security Regulation for Telecom Networks

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Oman has opened a public consultation on the Regulation of Physical Security Associated with Telecommunication Networks, aimed at establishing a regulatory framework to protect physical assets, ensure infrastructure security, and maintain service continuity.

The draft Regulation is based on a comprehensive market study, international best practices, and aligns with Oman’s Personal Data Protection Law, addressing risks related to internet-connected physical security systems. It forms part of a broader national security framework and will be implemented in coordination with relevant authorities.

Key objectives include ensuring the safety and quality of physical security products and services, standardizing practices, protecting consumer rights, creating jobs, and strengthening national capabilities. The Regulation also outlines obligations for suppliers and government entities, covering type approval, data protection, system security, breach notification, smart cities, and service implementation.
