Nigeria NCC Launches Device Registration and Authentication Framework
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has launched a nationwide registration and authentication framework for SIM-enabled devices to tackle illegal imports and strengthen regulatory oversight of communications equipment.
Under the framework, the NCC’s Device Management System (DMS) will electronically register and authenticate SIM-enabled devices and establish a central database using device identifiers such as IMEI numbers.
Devices that are not properly registered and authenticated will be barred from connecting to Nigerian mobile networks.
The first phase covers devices already in stock, while newly imported equipment will undergo registration and authentication before being placed on the market.
The NCC said the system will improve monitoring of communications equipment and enable electronic verification of Type Approval compliance for SIM-enabled devices.
