Malaysia MCMC Cancels UWB Usage in 3300–3400 MHz Band
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has officially announced the cancellation of spectrum access for Ultra-Wideband (UWB) communication devices operating in the 3300–3400 MHz frequency band.
The cancellation applies to the class assignment granted under Section 169 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, specifically under the Twenty-Fifth Schedule of Class Assignment No. 2 of 2025.
According to MCMC, the decision will take effect from April 1, 2026, after which the use of UWB communication devices in this frequency band will no longer be permitted.
This regulatory update reflects Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to optimize spectrum utilization, particularly within mid-band frequencies that are increasingly prioritized for advanced mobile technologies such as 5G.
Impact on Industry
The decision is expected to affect manufacturers, importers, and users of UWB-enabled devices, who must ensure compliance with the revised regulatory framework. Devices operating within the affected band may require reconfiguration or discontinuation to meet the new requirements.
