Kenya Clarifies USB-C Rule for New Mobile Devices
The Communications Authority of Kenya has clarified its recent requirement mandating USB-C charging ports for mobile devices.
The rule, effective March 24, 2026, applies only to new devices seeking type approval. It does not affect phones already in use, previously approved devices, or existing market stock.
The clarification follows public confusion that the policy would ban older or low-cost phones. The Authority confirmed that such claims are inaccurate and that consumers are not required to replace their devices.
The measure aligns Kenya with global charging standards and primarily impacts manufacturers and importers, not end users. For expert insights, feel free to contact info@nanotechsol.com.
