Kenya CAK Clarifies Existing Framework for SRD and WLAN Devices
The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) has clarified that Short-Range Devices (SRDs) and Wireless LAN (WLAN) equipment operating in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands remain covered under Kenya’s existing regulatory framework.
The clarification aligns with the CAK “Guidelines on the Use of Radiofrequency Spectrum by Short-Range Devices” issued in 2022, which outlines the technical and operational requirements applicable to these technologies.
The framework covers a range of wireless products including Bluetooth devices, Wi-Fi equipment, ZigBee and IoT devices, wireless peripherals, RF remote controls, telemetry systems, and certain RFID applications.
The clarification serves as a reminder for manufacturers, importers, and distributors to ensure compliance with applicable CAK requirements before placing such devices on the Kenyan market.
