Jordan TRC Issues New Instructions on Import and Type Approval of Telecommunications Devices
The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) of Jordan has issued Instructions No. 2 of 2025, published in Official Gazette No. 6009, introducing updated requirements for type approval, import authorization, and device compliance.
Type Approval Requirements
All wired and wireless telecommunications devices must now undergo TRC type approval to ensure compliance with either ETSI and FCC standards.
The type approval certificate is valid for two (2) years, renewable for another two upon application before expiry.
Local representatives acting on behalf of foreign companies are granted approvals valid for one (1) year only.
Temporary Imports, Testing, and Demonstrations
The TRC has introduced clearer procedures for temporary import approvals, R&D testing, and demonstration or exhibition use.
Such approvals are generally valid for up to six (6) months, with possible extensions at the Commission’s discretion.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
Only registered companies and authorized local representatives are eligible to apply for type approval or import permissions. Applications must include:
Company registration documents and valid professional licenses
Technical conformity certificates
Accredited laboratory test reports recognized by ILAC
GSMA TAC for cellular devices
Clear photos of the device.
Compliance and Enforcement
The new Instructions empower the TRC to suspend, revoke, or confiscate non-compliant devices and impose administrative or financial penalties for violations. Refurbished or reconditioned devices may only be imported if they meet all approved technical and safety standards.
Transparency and Framework Unification
To enhance transparency, the TRC will publish exemption lists, fees, and approved standards, replacing previous regulations issued between 2005 and 2024.This step unifies type approval and import procedures under a single, modernized regulatory framework, promoting clarity and consistency across the sector.
