Ghana's National Communications Authority (NCA) has announced two significant developments aimed at supporting the country's next phase of mobile broadband and 5G deployment.

The Authority has amended the licence of Next Gen InfraCo Limited (NGIC), removing the provision that granted the company exclusive rights to operate Ghana's wholesale 5G infrastructure network. According to the NCA, the decision is intended to promote a more competitive wholesale market, encourage investment, and support broader access to advanced communications services.

In a separate development, the NCA has opened applications for spectrum licences in the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz, and 3 GHz bands for the provision of mobile broadband services, including 5G. The licensing process is open to eligible operators, service providers, and qualifying new entrants in accordance with the published Request for Applications (RFA).
