Previously, type approvals, licensing, technical standards, and equipment regulations were managed by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MinT). However, these responsibilities have now been transferred to the Ethiopian Communications Authority (ECA). Established under the Communications Services Proclamation No. 1148/2019, the ECA is an independent federal authority overseeing telecommunications and postal services in Ethiopia.

Certificates previously issued by MinT will remain valid. During the transition period, there may be slight delays in issuing new Type Approval Certificates.
