The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has implemented a key update to its Type Approval procedure, effective 1 January 2026, aimed at modernizing and digitizing telecom equipment certification processes.

• Unified Digital Application: All Type Approval schemes, including Light, Intermediate, and Tight approval categories must now be applied for exclusively through the NTRA’s digital Type Approval portal. This applies to both local and overseas companies, replacing previous paper‑based or mixed submission processes.

• The change is part of a broader set of reforms NTRA initiated to improve compliance efficiency and reduce administrative burdens on manufacturers and importers seeking certification for telecommunications and radio equipment.
