Bahrain TRA Opens Consultation on Spectrum Pricing and Type Approval Reform
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has launched a public consultation to gather stakeholder feedback on proposed amendments to spectrum pricing and the Type Approval framework for telecommunications equipment.
The consultation focuses on four main areas:
Spectrum Pricing Calculation :TRA proposes revisions to the methodology for calculating fees for frequency licences in defined areas and seeks stakeholder input on fairness and appropriateness.
Unified Type Approval Service: The regulator is considering combining SRD, Terminal, and Telecom Type Approval categories into a single service, aiming to simplify licensing and improve clarity.
Fee Structure:TRA is reviewing the overall Type Approval fee structure and invites feedback on whether the proposed approach is reasonable and efficient.
Process Efficiency: Stakeholders are asked whether a unified Type Approval service and fee structure would make applications easier to manage.
If implemented, these reforms could streamline Type Approval procedures, standardize fees, and improve regulatory clarity for telecom manufacturers, importers, and frequency licence holders operating in Bahrain.
