Mauritania’s ARE Updates National Frequency Allocation Plan

Mauritania’s ARE, the Autorité de Régulation de l’Électronique et des Communications published the updated National Frequency Allocation Table 2025. This important document guides how radio frequencies are used across the country, covering a wide range from very low frequencies (8.3 kHz) up to extremely high frequencies (3000 GHz).

The new plan aligns Mauritania’s spectrum management with international standards set by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for Region 1, as well as regional agreements with neighboring countries. It also follows national laws that give ARE exclusive control over frequency assignments.

Key updates include:

  • Introduction of new frequency bands to support emerging technologies like 5G and International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT).

  • Expanded access to unlicensed bands for industrial, scientific, and medical uses.

  • Enhanced protections for critical safety services such as maritime and aeronautical distress signals.

  • Clear national rules (noted as “MTN.x”) that explain local licensing requirements and restrictions.

The plan balances the needs of various services such as mobile, satellite, broadcasting, and public safety while protecting critical uses like weather and emergency communications. The national regulator (ARE) exclusively licenses spectrum use, except for certain low-power devices. Military bands are confidential. The plan also requires coordination with neighboring countries and global systems to prevent interference. Technical rules define emissions and equipment limits to ensure smooth, interference-free operation for all users.

Overall, TNABF 2025 modernizes Mauritania’s spectrum framework to support the country’s growing demand for wireless connectivity, satellite services, and innovative technologies—while safeguarding vital public and scientific communications.
