Ghana’s National Communications Authority Publishes New Frequency Allocation Table

The National Communications Authority (NCA) in Ghana has released the National Frequency Allocation Table (NFAT), an important guide for managing radio frequencies used for wireless communication across the country.

The National Frequency Allocation Table (NFAT) outlines how different frequency bands are assigned to various types of radio services in accordance with international rules established by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The primary purpose of the NFAT is to ensure the efficient use of the available radio spectrum by organizing and allocating frequency bands to support current communication services without interference, while also reserving sufficient spectrum for future technologies and services.

When developing the table, several important factors were considered. These included international and regional radio regulations, the expected future needs of various users, how neighboring countries utilize their spectrum, and existing agreements between countries.

In short, the NFAT acts as a living document that maps out present spectrum use while guiding future allocations to meet evolving communication demands. The NFAT is periodically updated to reflect licensing decisions, ITU regulations, and national frequency policies.
