Eswatini Issues Enforcement Notice on Type Approval for Communications Equipment Imports
The Eswatini Communications Commission has issued General Notice No. 4/2026, reinforcing regulatory controls on the importation, type approval, and distribution of electronic communications equipment in Eswatini.
Under the existing framework established by the ESCCOM Act, 2013 and the Electronic Communications (Importation, Type Approval and Distribution of Communications Equipment) Regulations, 2016, all electronic communications equipment must comply with prescribed technical and regulatory requirements.
Effective 13 April 2026, the Commission will enforce stricter compliance by requiring valid Type Approval certificates from all entities intending to import or use communications equipment in the country.
To ensure compliance, ESCCOM will collaborate with the Eswatini Revenue Service, with inspection and verification procedures implemented at all ports of entry under the Customs and Excise Act, 1971. The process will be supported through the ASYCUDAWorld system for managing customs declarations.
The Commission will also maintain a publicly accessible database of approved equipment on its official website to facilitate verification by stakeholders.
Through these enhanced enforcement measures, ESCCOM aims to strengthen market surveillance, prevent the entry of non-compliant or counterfeit devices, and ensure a secure and high-quality communications environment. For more such information, feel free to contact us at info@nanotechsol.com
