Egypt Bans Substandard Phones to Protect Users and Improve Service Quality

Egypt's National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) is taking a significant step to protect users by banning the activation of new mobile phones that do not meet international standards, effective February 1st. This initiative aims to enhance user safety, improve service quality, and remove substandard devices from the market.

To safeguard themselves, consumers are advised to verify the phone's IMEI number using the "Telephony" app and request a tax invoice when purchasing new devices. This ensures the device is compliant with regulations and meets quality standards.

Traders and distributors selling non-compliant phones will face legal consequences in collaboration with the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA), as outlined in Telecommunication Regulation Law No. 10 of 2003. This measure is designed to hold businesses accountable and protect consumers.

Citizens can report violations through NTRA's call centers, hotline (155), the My NTRA mobile app, or the official website. By ensuring users have access to safe, high-quality devices, this move aims to improve telecom service reliability and align with global standards established by the GSM Association (GSMA).
