Australia ACMA Seeks Feedback on 850 MHz and 1800 MHz Spectrum Updates

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has opened a consultation on proposed updates to the 850 MHz and 1800 MHz bands ahead of upcoming licence renewals.

Key points include:

  • 1800 MHz band: ACMA is reviewing unwanted emission limits and proposing transition of rail services to apparatus licences (PMTS-B and Cellular Mobile Class Licence). Three options are under consideration, balancing interference management, equipment availability, and protection of rail and adjacent services.

  • 850 MHz band: Proposed 1 MHz downshift in emission limits to create a guard band with the 900 MHz band, improving coexistence with existing services.

  • Adjacent services: Impacts on cordless communications, aeronautical mobile, radio astronomy, and meteorological-satellite services will be considered.

ACMA invites stakeholders to submit feedback by 20 March 2026 . For consultancy and expert guidance , reach out to info@nanotechsol.com
