South Korea: KATS Proposes Expansion of KC Safety Confirmation Scope for EV Chargers
South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), through the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), has launched a public consultation on a draft amendment that would increase the KC Safety Confirmation threshold for EV chargers from 200 kVA to 500 kVA.
If adopted, the proposal would establish a compliance pathway for ultra-fast EV chargers in the 200–500 kVA range, which are not currently covered under the existing KC framework.
The amendment would revise the Enforcement Rules under the Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act. The consultation is currently open, while the effective date and any transition period have yet to be announced.
