Indonesia Updates SAR Requirements for Mobile Phones and Tablets (2026)
Indonesia has issued Ministerial Decree No. 197 of 2026, introducing updated Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) requirements for mobile phones and tablets.
The regulation aligns with international standards, referencing ICNIRP 1998 and ICNIRP 2020, and defines SAR limits for both head and body exposure.
SAR compliance remains a mandatory requirement for Indonesia type approval, with this decree providing updated technical provisions and clarification for device certification.
A notable update includes an exemption for tablets not intended for use near the ear, allowing such devices to skip head SAR testing, subject to a manufacturer declaration and supporting technical documentation.
To support industry transition, Indonesia allows temporary submission of a local test lab statement in place of a full SAR report until 31 July 2027.
This update reinforces Indonesia’s focus on RF exposure safety compliance, requiring manufacturers to ensure proper SAR testing and documentation for market access. For more regulatory updates and compliance support, contact us at info@nanotechsol.com.
