Indonesia Sets New Technical Standards for 5G-Based Broadband Wireless Access Devices
Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital has issued Decree No. 204 of 2025, establishing technical standards for 5G-based Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) equipment. This regulation supports the country's digital strategy by aligning telecommunications infrastructure with global IMT-2020 standards. It took effect immediately upon signing on May 23, 2025.
Key Provisions:
The decree applies to BWA equipment operating in the 1432–1517 MHz band using TDD (Time Division Duplex). It sets mandatory technical benchmarks for both subscriber stations and base stations.
 Technical Highlights:
Power: Devices must use AC power or AC/DC converters. Battery use is prohibited for subscriber stations.
Safety: Must comply with SNI IEC 62368-1:2014 or 60950-1:2016, covering overvoltage and touch current protection.
EMC: Devices must meet SNI CISPR 32:2015 and ETSI EN 301 489 standards for radiated and conducted emissions. Base stations may be fixed or vehicle-mounted.
Frequency Use: Applies to the 1432–1517 MHz band.
Under this decree, subscriber stations must use built-in antennas, operate indoors, and follow ETSI bandwidth rules. Base stations can use up to 80 MHz and must declare antenna gain to meet emission limits. All devices must comply with ETSI emission and performance standards.
Testing must follow IEC/SNI safety, ETSI 5G, and CISPR 32 EMC guidelines. Operators and vendors must coordinate antenna settings, with further rules on EMC immunity and radiation expected. Have questions about Indonesia DJID compliance? Reach out to us at info@nanotechsol.com.
