The Telekom-Control-Kommission (TKK), which operates under Austria’s telecom regulator Rundfunk und Telekom Regulierungs-GmbH (RTR), has concluded a spectrum auction for the 2300 MHz and 2600 MHz bands, awarding long-term licences to the country’s three main mobile operators. 

The 2300 MHz band has been assigned for the first time, while the 2600 MHz band replaces existing usage rights that were due to expire at the end of 2026. These frequencies are mainly used to add mobile network capacity in busy areas and support 4G and 5G services.

Under the auction results, T-Mobile Austria, A1 Telekom Austria, and Hutchison Drei Austria secured spectrum in both TDD and FDD segments of the 2600 MHz band, along with new allocations in the 2300 MHz band. The total auction value is around €39 million, with licences valid for up to 30 years.

RTR also confirmed that the licences come with rollout obligations to improve network coverage, especially in high-demand regions.
