Australia Publishes Draft Spectrum Outlook 2026–2031
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has released its draft Five-Year Spectrum Outlook 2026–2031, outlining key priorities for spectrum planning and management.
The report highlights growing demand for spectrum driven by 5G expansion, future 6G development, Wi-Fi advancements, private networks, and satellite-based services, including direct-to-device connectivity.
Key focus areas include:
Review and replanning of major bands such as 1.5 GHz, 1800 MHz, and 2 GHz
Planned allocation of the 2 GHz Mobile Satellite Service band by late 2026
Further consultation on the upper 6 GHz band for next-generation wireless technologies
The outlook also emphasizes improved regional connectivity, supported by the proposed Universal Outdoor Mobile Obligation, aimed at ensuring nationwide basic mobile coverage.
In parallel, the ACMA continues to explore spectrum sharing technologies and strengthen international coordination, particularly in preparation for International Telecommunication Union WRC-27.
The draft framework reflects Australia’s commitment to supporting innovation, efficient spectrum use, and future-ready telecommunications infrastructure. For expert insights, feel free to contact info@nanotechsol.com.
