Singapore IMDA Releases Draft eUICC SMT Specification for M2M and IoT Devices
The Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) has published a draft technical specification for eUICC Subscription Management Technology (SMT) targeting machine-to-machine (M2M) and IoT devices.
Aligned with standards from the GSMA, the framework defines requirements for remote SIM provisioning in embedded eUICC-based devices, such as smart meters, vehicles, and connected cameras.
Unlike consumer devices, the specification adopts a server-driven model, where subscription profiles are pushed remotely from M2M servers (SM-SR/SM-DP) to the device.
Key Requirements
The draft mandates that M2M devices must:
Comply with GSMA eUICC architecture (SGP.01/SGP.02)
Support LTE (E-UTRAN) and IMDA cellular specifications
Ensure interoperability across networks and platforms
Additionally, eUICCs must undergo:
Functional and security testing under GSMA standards
Certification based on eUICC protection profiles
Hardware platform security certification
Production site accreditation under GSMA SAS-UP
The specification aims to strengthen secure, scalable, and interoperable eSIM adoption across Singapore’s growing IoT ecosystem, with development supported by the Telecommunications Standards Advisory Committee (TSAC). For expert assistance, reach out to us at info@nanotechsol.com
